précis
Last updated: 13 August 2026
These are the terms for using précis, the meeting and interview recording app for iPhone and Mac. By installing or using précis you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
The short version
Use précis to record conversations you are lawfully allowed to record, and get consent from the people in them. The app is provided as-is, in active development, and can change or break. Subscriptions are billed and cancelled through Apple, not by us.
précis is operated by Jacob Mitchell. Questions about these terms can go to jacobdmitch@me.com.
précis records audio, transcribes it, and produces summaries, action items and coverage reports from the transcript. It is not a legal, medical, HR or compliance tool, and its output — transcripts, summaries, speaker names, requirement coverage — is generated automatically and can be incomplete or wrong. Check anything before you rely on it for a decision that matters.
précis is currently invitation-only. Access codes are issued at our discretion, are not transferable, and can be revoked or expired at any time, including if usage looks automated or abusive. Features, pricing, and the terms in this document can all change materially before or after a public release.
You are solely responsible for complying with the law wherever you and the other participants are located when you use précis to record a conversation. Requirements vary by jurisdiction — some require only one participant to consent, others require everyone. précis does not announce itself to a call and no bot joins on your behalf, so the other participants will not know a recording is happening unless you tell them. We are not responsible for how you use recordings you make.
You own the recordings, transcripts and summaries précis creates for you. You are responsible for having the rights to record and process whatever you record. We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use it to train any model — see the privacy policy for exactly what happens to it and where it goes.
précis Pro is offered as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription through Apple's App Store. Pricing, billing, renewal and cancellation are all handled by Apple under your Apple Account — we do not process payments or hold your payment details ourselves. To cancel or manage a subscription, use Settings on your device or account.apple.com. Refunds are handled by Apple according to their policies; we cannot issue them directly.
Do not use précis to record people without any lawful basis for doing so, to harass or surveil someone, to violate another person's rights, or to attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, or abuse the service that powers transcription and analysis. We can suspend or revoke access for use that puts the service, other users, or us at risk.
précis relies on third-party providers for transcription, analysis, hosting and sync — ElevenLabs, Anthropic, Fly.io and Apple's iCloud. Their availability, accuracy and performance are outside our control, and an outage or change on their side can affect précis. See the privacy policy for the full list and what each one handles.
précis is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that transcription and analysis output will be accurate or complete.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, précis and Jacob Mitchell are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the app — including reliance on a transcript, summary or coverage report, or a recording made without proper consent. Our total liability for any claim relating to précis will not exceed the amount you paid for précis Pro in the twelve months before the claim arose.
You can stop using précis at any time by deleting the app. We can suspend or terminate your access, including your invitation code, if you violate these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — ownership, no warranty, limitation of liability — continue to apply after your access ends.
If these terms change materially, the date at the top will change and the new version will be published here. Continuing to use précis after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, to the extent your local law does not require otherwise.
